Local ARPA planning on hold for lack of federal guidance
Last updated 5/26/2021 at 11:09am In the wake of announcements about the dispersal of over $28 million in American Rescue Plan funds to counties and cities across north-central Montana little guidance has been issued by the federal government about how these funds can be used. While some county- and city-level officials in the area have general ideas about where this money will be spent, few concrete plans are being made because so little is known about how the money can legally be spent. “We know we need to be accountable for how it’s spent and we have not received very broad rules about what it can be spent on,” said Chouteau County Commission Chair Bob Pasha. “The last thing we want to do is be spending it on something and then have to pay it back. That would be a disaster.” ....

Last updated 5/24/2021 at 11:36am The Hill County Park Board’s Rules and Regulation Committee is holding the third meeting Wednesday in a series of meetings on a controversial topic beaver management in Beaver Creek Park. An agenda sent by Hill County Commissioner Mark Peterson says three speakers will present at the meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the 4-H Chuckwagon on the Great Northern Fairgrounds. Peterson said this morning that while the speakers have been confirmed, he is unable to release their names. Pandemic and ARPA funds discussed at county officials meeting COVID-19 continues to affect young people
Last updated 5/21/2021 at 1pm Hill County Public Health Director and Health Officer Kim Berg said at a meeting of county officials Thursday COVID-19 continues to affect younger people in the community as cases steadily continue to crop up. Berg said a possibility exists that these latest case may be the result of a variant, not just because of the age group it affects but because there seems to have been a noticeable shift in symptoms. She said fewer and fewer people seem to be losing their sense of taste, but chest congestion and breathing difficulties appear to be more intense, and young people are being hospitalized because of it. ....
