A waitress with traditional 1-litre Maass beer glasses The deserts of Arabia could soon be the unlikely setting for the curious spectacle of grown men in leather shorts dancing to oom-pah music and drinking vast quantities of beer, and women carousing the night away in revealing dirndl dresses. The world-famous Oktoberfest beer festival in Munich, Germany is widely expected to be cancelled for the second year running this year due to uncertainty around Covid restrictions. But if a group of German businessmen get their way, the two-week event could be held in Dubai instead of Bavaria. They say they have agreed a deal that will see the whole thing take place in 32 specially erected tents at a 10-acre festival site near the Dubai marina, complete with fairground rides modelled on the original, and claim major celebrities will be flown in to join the fun. ....
This has been a week with a lot of odd stories involving beer. Hereâs a couple of the better ones. Larry Kudlow, currently a commentator at Fox Business Channel, formerly of both CNBC and an economic advisor in the Trump administration, attempted to make a point that climate policy set forth by the Biden administration would restrict personal diets, specifically red meat consumption. And Goronsonâs Parched Eagle Brewpub, at 1444 E. Washington Ave., just a hard throw away from the Yahara River, is more than ready for new beginnings. The 676-square-foot brewpub, one of the smallest in the state, barely made it through the past 13 months, but is poised for a comeback in 2021. Just a few months ago, Goronson was behind on rent, a polar vortex was keeping customers away and he was broke. A bad left knee was giving him problems, which forced arthroscopic surgery in mid-March. He almost ran out of beer because the operation forced him to stop brewing for a month. ....
