Christina Rasmussen / Special to the Melrose Free Press Melrose Open Studio Tour (MOST) kicked off this season’s first summer art market on June 26 at the Beebe Estate, featuring works from local artists from communities up and down the North Shore of Boston. The art market showcases artists who exhibit and sell their work, while simultaneously bringing the community together to cherish local art. The first art market showcased 14 artists, and the second art market planned for July 31 will feature 20 artists showcasing paintings, jewelry, mosaic art, and more. The art market is set up similarly to the Melrose Farmers Market, but for artists. It’s a great way to showcase and support the Melrose arts community, and started last year as an open-air alternative to indoor exhibitions that became very popular with families in Melrose. ....

The Melrose Human Rights Commission (HRC), along with the Melrose Chamber Member the Foundation Trust, celebrated Melrose Pride from June 17-20 with both in-person and virtual events that celebrated the work to achieve equal justice and opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community. LBGTQ+ pride is celebrated annually each June, with pride parades, parties, workshops, and concerts around the world to recognize the impact LGBTQ+ individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally. ....
Melrose Open Studio Tour to host art market COURTESY OF THE MELROSE OPEN STUDIO TOUR The Melrose Summer Art Market will return this year from noon to 5 p.m. June 26 and July 31 at the Beebe Estate lawn, 235 W. Foster St., Melrose. A dozen artists will exhibit and sell their work on the lawn on both dates. Organized by volunteers for the Melrose Open Studio Tour, which has showcased dozens of local artists annually in late fall since 2017, the summer markets are a great way to celebrate and support the Melrose arts community. The market started last year as an open-air alternative to indoor exhibitions, and was tremendously popular with families and arts patrons. ....

Media Mavens celebrate arts and female empowerment in Melrose Christina Rasmussen / [email protected] The Media Mavens are celebrating each other and other female artists. Who are the Media Mavens? An all female group of Melrose artists who join together to celebrate women empowerment and art. The group was founded in 2015 by Melrose resident Sue Dragoo Lembo, after she heard of a group of female painters on the South Shore called “Girls Just Wanna Paint.” The group of 12 artists, which was eventually renamed to the Media Mavens, decide on a theme, project, or challenge to create, and then join together to present and share their artwork. ....
