[Kipsang Joseph, Standard] Erick Omondi his wife Ester and their three children, 7-month-old Biden, Judith, 5 and Mary, 10 died yesterday morning while two other relatives and their two friends suffered serious injuries at Samburu area along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway. A relative of the deceased, William Okoth, said the victims were travelling to their rural home in Nyakach, Kisumu County for a funeral of their kin. “We have lost five members of one family. Four others were injured. We are planning to have the bodies transferred to Mombasa and the injured to a central place,” Okoth said. ....
THE STANDARD COAST The family members were heading to Voi from Mombasa when the accident occurred. [File, Standard] A middle-aged couple and their three children died on Saturday morning after their vehicle collided head-on with a fuel tanker at Taru area on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway. Four other persons, who were also in the private vehicle, sustained serious injuries, Coast Regional Traffic Commander Peter Maina said. The four survivors are the man’s second wife, his two other relatives and a mechanic. They were taken to Kinango Sub-County Hospital for emergency care. Maina told The Standard the victims, nine in number, were heading to Voi from Mombasa when the accident occurred. ....
THE STANDARD COAST The 7am incident caused a huge snarl-up on the Makupa-Changamwe route. [Courtesy] Three people died on Thursday morning and five others injured in Makupa, Mombasa after a matatu flew over a barrier and collided head-on with a truck. The 14-seater matatu was headed towards Changamwe from Makupa, when the accident occurred. Coast regional traffic boss, Peter Maina, told The Standard it wasn’t immediately clear what caused the matatu driver to lose control of the vehicle. The injured were taken to the Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital, whereas bodies were taken to the same facility’s morgue. ....
