One of Ottawa’s most prominent architecture firms has drawn up some well-thought-out blueprints for benevolence by matching all new donations made to four local charities that it has identified as vital to the community.
Hobin Architecture is supporting BGC Ottawa (Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa), Cornerstone Housing for Women, Multifaith Housing Initiative and The Ottawa Mission. It has pledged to match donations, up to a total of $10,000 per beneficiary, made by the end of June.
To stimulate new support, the company is asking that the giving comes from individuals who have not donated to these charities in the past. By all means, donors should name-drop Hobin Architecture when they’re donating their dollars in order to double the impact.

With anti-Asian racism, hate crimes, and incidents rising locally and nationally, Norfolk District Attorney Michal W. Morrissey, state Rep. Tackey Chan, QARI CEO Philip Chong, local activists and police chiefs are inviting residents of Asian descent to join them in a virtual forum on Tuesday, March 23, from 7-8:15 p.m.
“Some in the Asian American community are nervous. They hear the hateful misinformation and rhetoric that has circulated nationally related to COVID,” Morrissey said. A study from California State University at San Bernardino said that anti-Asian American incidents increased by about 150% since the beginning of the COVID crisis, and 133% in Boston.
QUINCY City leaders will be holding a forum on anti-Asian racism next week amid a rise of reported hate crimes and discrimination tied to the pandemic.
The virtual forum will take place at 7 p.m. March 23 and will be hosted by Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey, state Rep.Tackey Chan, Quincy Police Chief Paul Keenan, Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. Chief Executive Philip Chong and others. The pandemic was just a tipping point for anti-Asian racism that s been in this country for many many years, Chong said. It is important for people to speak up and not accept discrimination. They shouldn t tolerate it. It s really disturbing.
