Better Made Snack Foods names Catherine Gusmano as CEO Better Made Snack Foods has named Catherine Gusmano as its new CEO, the Detroit-based company announced Friday.  Gusmano, current chairman of the board, is a second-generation family member leading the potato chip company her father, Peter Cipriano, co-founded with Cross Moceri in 1930. She replaces her brother Sam Cipriano, who died last month at age 80. He had served as CEO for 10 years. The board appointed Gusmano unanimously. She will continue to also serve as chairman of the board, the company said.  “Cathy is open minded and approachable, and has a strong sense of ownership,” Dave Jones, president of Better Made Snack Foods, said in a release. “She’s Better Made’s matriarch and she’s looking forward to the continued growth of the company.”

He was 80. Cipriano, a second-generation leader of the Detroit-based company, died on Tuesday from heart failure. He served as CEO of Better Made for 10 years during which he took the company to “new levels of success,” according to a news release.

He was the CEO of the iconic potato chip company for 10 years and the second generation to lead Better Made, where he s worked for decades. His father, Peter Cipriano, co-founded the company with Cross Moceri 90 years ago.  “He was loved by everyone at Better Made and those that knew him, and will be missed tremendously, said his sister Cathy Gusmano, chairman of the board at Better Made Snack Foods, in a statement confirming Cipriano s death.

Cipriano, who was CEO for 10 years, was the second generation to lead the company at 10148 Gratiot Ave. It was founded in 1930 by his father, Peter, and Cross Moceri.
