Two Laois students are inviting people to virtually walk to Lourdes and to donate to a Laois charity, Portlaoise Action to Homelessness (PATH).
Sadhbh Dunne and Cara Phelan from Scoil Chríost Rí, are asking the community to collectively walk 1,965 km, the distance from their school in Portlaoise to the religious pilgrimage town of Lourdes in France.
The 5th year girls are working towards achieving The Pope John Paul II Award. Normally this gives students an opportunity to go to Lourdes but with Covid-19 this is impossible.
Instead the girls came up with a new solution that unites their year, the school and the wider community, a Walk to Lourdes virtual campaign, that also involves support for the PATH charity, to which the school has shown great support in the past. ....

There can be no letting down of our guard, there can be no lessening of the standard we have lived by over the past ten months. A Christmas like it has always been will undo the great sacrifices and work of the past ten months. ....

Bishops cast doubt over communions and confirmations happening in 2021

“We must plan as realistically as possible for next year’s celebrations,” he said.
He proposed all first communions be celebrated from May and confirmations from June.
For families and parishes waiting to celebrate sacraments that should have taken place earlier this year, Dr Nulty said “given the current level of restrictions and the uncertainty around the virus I am asking all parishes to postpone any further rescheduling of these sacraments until February or March next”.
In his letter, Archbishop Martin acknowledged it was unfortunate parishes have not been able to complete their 2020 programme of sacraments and remain unsure about when it will be possible to do so. “It is not clear how the situation will unfold as we move into 2021, what level of restriction there will be, or how the level might fluctuate,” he wrote. ....
