WATCH: Jamaican abortion rights activists say no to referendum


Pro-choice advocates have come out strongly against a suggested referendum on abortion reform in Jamaica.
The activists voiced their disapproval during a peaceful demonstration, organised by community-based advocacy organisation We-Change, along Hope Road in St Andrew over the weekend.

Loop News that the group wanted to hear more from Members of Parliament (MPs) on their stance on the issue.

So far we have heard that (MPs) might opt to do a referendum but we are saying that a referendum doesn t make sense on this particular issue because not many Jamaicans know that abortion is a healthcare issue, it is a human rights issue and women should be able to make the decision on what happens with their bodies, the woman said. ....

Pastor delivers anti-abortion message at Prayer Breakfast

A Baptist pastor has called on Jamaicans to remember the rights of unborn children, as the question of abortion has again been placed on the national agenda.
Delivering the sermon at the 41st annual National Leadership Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, Rev Dr Dylan Toussaint from the Edgewater and Waterford circuit of Baptist Churches called on Jamaicans to bring hope to the lives of the unborn.
“As our nation again deliberates on the issue of abortion, along with the rights of others, let us remember to include the rights of the unborn child and thus keep his or her hope alive,   said the clergyman of 32 years. ....
