Australians are going online to ask 'how not to be racist'


Australians are turning to the internet to ask how not to be a racist? and what is white privilege? in increasing numbers.
In June, as people took to the streets all over the world, turning out for Black Lives Matters rallies, Australians also took to the internet pondering questions like what is white privilege? - a question which spiked more than 300 per cent that month - and how not to be racist? - searches for that phrase increased four times over.
Searches for books on racism and books by Indigenous authors have also doubled month on month. ....

I have personally spoken to many of you through our inbox explaining the above and have apologised in regards to anything taken the wrong way or being insensitive with the comments made by our socials.
Mr O Shea said the restaurant s social media team like to push the boundaries when it comes to their marketing .
Unfortunately they may have pushed the boundaries a bit too far this time with some of the comments made.
The point #3 was made in regards to social influencers and how they love to jump on bandwagons. They use these days to support an issue for the likes or clout, then move on to the next one, forgetting about the true cause. ....

It’s the sort of stuff that should have been sorted years ago in Australia: a murderous, frontier society ill disposed to the indigenous populace; the creation of a convict colony that was itself an act of invasion rather than settlement; the theft of land and its rapacious plunder.
Even some of the rough colonists were not oblivious to such a crude record.  Henry Parkes, in planning the Centenary celebrations as New South Wales premier in 1888, was asked by a fellow politician what he would be doing for the poor and needy for the occasion.  Wealthy landed citizens had been promised a banquet of much quaffing and gorging.  As a gesture, Parkes considered the distribution of food parcels.  “Then we ought to do something for the Aborigines,” came the response.  The answer from the premier was coldly revealing: “And remind them that we have robbed them?” ....
