Wolf to lift restrictions MondayBy William Kibler [email protected] The state's indoor dining ban and other COVID-19 mitigations imposed a few weeks ago will expire on schedule Monday, because the state's case numbers have plateaued and its positivity rate and hospitalizations have declined a little, Gov. Tom Wolf said Wednesday. "The mitigation efforts have done what we intended," Wolf said, adding other rules, including mask-wearing and limitations on business capacities, will remain in effect. The reprieve was largely unexpected, according to Joe Hurd, Blair County Chamber of Commerce CEO. "The businesses I've talked to in the past couple weeks, the general theme was, 'there's no way he's going to lift this,'" Hurd said. "We were not at all getting our hopes up that anything positive was likely." The recent start of vaccinations is hopeful, as is the calming of the outbreak, but that does not justify carelessness now, Wolf said. If people get complacent, case numbers will rise again "with swift and deadly consequences." Wolf did not rule out a return to the December mitigations, when asked by reporters about whether restaurants can feel confident. "None of us knows what will happen between now and a month from now," Wolf said. "Like everything else with the virus, everything is very contingent." Nevertheless, Pennsylvanians have a "tremendous opportunity" to keep those potential increases at bay by complying with the orders and guidance the state Department of Health has been preaching, including staying home as much as possible and avoiding gatherings, said Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine.
