A mother whose black pick-up truck was used to transport Lee McKnight to river where his body was found told detectives in an interview: “I don’t know what’s gone on. I really don’t.”
Carol Edgar, 47, and her 26-year-old daughter, Coral, and four men, are on trial accused of murdering Mr McKnight. He was brutally attacked at an address in Charles Street before being dumped in water at around dawn on 24th July last year.
Arrested by police after the incident, Carol Edgar was interviewed five times by police with the content being read to Carlisle Crown Court trial jurors this morning. ....

Last known sighting of Lee McKnight revealed
This is the last known image of Lee McKnight, captured on CCTV just hours before his death.
This image, taken from a camera at the forecourt of the filling station at Tesco, Warwick Road, was shown to a jury in the trial of six people who stand accused of his murder.
It was logged at 7pm on July 23 last year.
In a statement read to the jury at Carlisle Crown Court earlier this week, Mr McKnight’s mother, Wendy, recalled hearing her son running upstairs at the family’s city home on that evening and going straight back out of the house. ....

Carlisle man Lee McKnight 'beaten to the point of death,' jury hears

A pathologist concluded Mr McKnight was “beaten to the point of death” away from the scene of that gruesome discovery, in the Blackwell Hall area near Cummersdale.
Jurors have heard he sustained sickening multiple injuries, including 36 separate lacerations to his head alone – said to be consistent with him being beaten with the hard head of a riding whip.
Other injuries to his torso and legs, the court heard, suggested he was whipped with the flexible stem, “probably while he was secured or immobile in a chair” – a suggestion being that he “was a victim of torture”.
Jamie Davison, 26, allegedly hatched a plan to lure Mr McKnight to an address at Charles Street, off London Road, and is said to have meted out shocking violence in the address with the “extra muscle” of Arron Graham, also 26, and 18-year-old Jamie Lee Roberts. Coral Edgar, also 26, is alleged to have acted as “bait”, with her 47-year-old mum Carol providing the address and a Nissa ....

UC Berkeley has 184 COVID-19 cases in 1 week, tells dorms to quarantine

UC Berkeley reported 184 COVID-19 cases in the last week, hitting its peak during the pandemic and asking all students in campus housing to quarantine as cases continue to spread primarily among undergraduate students.
Daily cases had mostly been in the single digits leading up to Jan. 26, but they jumped to 42 cases among undergraduates alone on Friday. There were two other cases among graduate students and staff, making a total of 44 cases that day. On Sunday, there were another 34 cases and 100% were undergraduates.
The total number of cases in the last week amounts to about 25% of cases at the university since April, when Cal reported its first case. It has since had 731 cases of COVID-19 among its community members to date. ....

On Friday May 17, 1918 somewhere above Ballinger, Pednor and Chartridge there was a torrential cloudburst. In a short space of time a massive amount of water fell near Chesham. In Chesham there was a rainshower and a downfall of hail. Locals carried on, unaware of the bigger surprise that was to come.
The Floodwaters
The water which had fallen upon the ridges ran down the hillsides to the valleys below, flooding farms and stripping fields. Water made its way over the fields and down the lanes. It carried hay ricks and sheds from one meadow to another. Cattle in lower fields were carried away and drowned. ....
