To improve the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases, the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the other tripartite partners, the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) supported the Government of South Sudan to convene a Joint Risk Assessment (JRA) involving several sectors and stakeholders including: the Ministry of Health; Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, the Ministry of Wildlife, the South Sudan Veterinary Association, University of Juba, and Upper Nile University. This was the first JRA to be conducted in the Republic of South Sudan. ....

People in the Grand Sud of Madagascar are facing the most acute drought the region has seen since 1981, leading to a severe humanitarian crisis.
Some 1.13 million people nearly two in every five people in the Grand Sud are severely food insecure and the situation is expected to deteriorate further.
Global acute malnutrition rates have risen sharply. The number of communes in nutrition emergency has increased from 38 in December 2020 to 97 in April 2021.
KEY MESSAGES
The Grand Sud of Madagascar has been buffeted by back to back droughts during the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 rainy seasons, forcing people to resort to desperate survival measures, such as eating locusts, raw red cactus fruits or wild leaves.
