High school hopes: Academy ISD designing new campus to deal with growth

The Academy Independent School District aims to open a new high school campus in August 2023 — a facility that Superintendent Billy Harlan said would alleviate any growth-related capacity concerns.
Funding will be drawn from the $79 million bond issue that Academy ISD voters overwhelmingly approved in the May 1 election.
“We are so thankful to the Academy ISD school community for the support for the construction project … 68 percent approval is phenomenal,” Harlan wrote in his monthly newsletter. “The processes are already underway as surveyors, geotech engineers and architects begin to work on concepts for us to consider.”
The new facility, which is currently being designed by Claycomb Associates, will be built on the 80-acre property — just north of its existing high school site — that Academy ISD purchased last year. ....

Student boom: Central Texas school districts dealing with rapid growth

One in a series.
The need for new or expanded school campuses grows daily at Central Texas school districts — especially those located off the state’s busiest highway.
By the dozens, new students arrive every month.
From just south of the Bell County line to its northern boundaries, school districts adjacent to or near Interstate 35 — Temple, Belton, Salado, Academy, Troy and Jarrell, for example — are dealing with booming student populations that will require campus improvements to accommodate growth in the coming years, officials said.
School officials are preparing for the growth by looking at both short- and long-term options:
Temple ISD purchased land for a planned elementary that could open in fall 2023. ....
