MANILA, May 6 (Xinhua): Around 3.44 million Filipinos were out of work in March, down from the 4.2 million in February as the country reopens further the economy, the Philippines Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Thursday.
Citing the March labor force survey results, PSA Head Dennis Mapa said the Philippines unemployment rate in March fell to 7.1 per cent amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The unemployment rate in February was 8.8 per cent.
Mapa said the number of unemployed Filipinos aged 15 years and over in March was estimated at 3.44 million, a reduction of about 747,000 unemployed persons from February. ....

On the other hand, inflation rate slowed down in the indices of food and non-alcoholic beverages at 4.8 percent; and alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 12.0 percent.
The rest of the commodity groups retained their respective previous month’s annual growth rates.
Inflation rate in Philippines at 4.5 percent in April 2021
Excluding selected food and energy items, core inflation decelerated to 3.3 percent in April 2021, from 3.5 percent in the previous month. Core inflation in April 2020 was posted at 2.9 percent.
Inflation rate for food index at the country level decelerated to 5.0 percent during the month, from 6.2 percent in March 2021. In April 2020, inflation for food was seen at 3.4 percent. ....
