High-level Philippine and Japanese officials are set meet to virtually this week to discuss infrastructure development and economic cooperation between the two nations.
On July 28, Finance Secretary Carlos G. Dominguez III and Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick T. Chua will meet with Izumi Hiroto, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister, who will represent the Japanese government.
This will be the second time that the Japan-Philippines Joint Committee on Infrastructure Development and Economic Cooperation will be convened online, the Department of Finance said.
The discussions will focus on the status of the Japan-funded projects under the “Build, Build, Build” program and Japan’s assistance to the Philippines’ COVID-19 response efforts, including its ongoing mass vaccination program.

Gov’t railway training center launches online learning platform

Existing railway personnel and maintenance staff can now access self-paced training courses through an online learning platform launched by the newly established Philippine Railways Institute (PRI) with a P307-million grant from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

PRI’s learning management system (LMS) is an online learning platform that allows self-paced learning, while still encouraging the trainees’ participation through facilitated contact sessions.
In a statement, DOTr undersecretary and PRI officer-in-charge Anneli Lontoc, stressed that PRI is now able to provide remote learning sustainably during this pandemic.

In a bid to cope with the challenges brought by the ongoing pandemic, the Philippine Railways Institute (PRI) launched last week a new online learning platform for its web refresher training course.
“I am delighted that, in keeping with the times, the PRI is now able to provide remote learning sustainably during, and even beyond, this pandemic,” Transportation Undersecretary Anneli Lontoc, officer-in-charge of the PRI, said.
“PRI is now part of a growing number of institutes and organizations that have adopted this kind of learning platform,” she added.
According to Lontoc, PRI’s new Learning Management System (LMS) aims to provide the existing railway operations and maintenance workforce a platform that allows self-paced learning, while still encouraging the trainees’ participation through facilitated contact sessions.
