South Philippines Church Region Votes on a Request to Split in Two

A recently concluded special constituency meeting of the South Philippine Union Conference (SPUC) voted to split the territory into two distinct union organizations.
The church work in the SPUC territory is growing rapidly, and it demands more close supervision, monitoring, quick assessment, and evaluation, regional leaders said. They reported that as the second-largest island of the Philippines, Mindanao has 97,530 square kilometers (37,660 square miles) of land area.
“Since its organization in 1964, it remains a vast challenge for travel from one end to another, not to mention the staggering distance and traffic conditions, despite the opening of new highways and bypass roads,” leaders reported. “The splitting of the territory into two organizations, therefore, is the best option to fulfill the mission of the church.” ....

Southern Asia-Pacific Division Launches Honor in Biblical Languages

The Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) launched its first Pathfinder honor on Biblical Languages (Hebrew) on February 28. As of the date of launching, 230 Master Guides, Pathfinders, and Adventist Youth had registered, and more than 130 attended the launching, which was held on Zoom video conference and on Facebook. The Facebook Live broadcast reached 6,377 people and 1,600 views.
The SSD Pathfinder Committee had met and voted the new Pathfinder honor on August 4, 2020.
The launch started with a devotional from SSD youth director Ron Genebago.
