The wife of detained National Democratic Front consultant Vicente Ladlad has appealed to the Anti-Money Laundering Council (ALMC) to lift what she called the “immoral and reprehensible” freezing of her husband’s bank accounts.
In a May 31 letter to central bank governor Benjamin Diokno, the AMLC chair, Fides Lim lamented the “unjust freezing” of the Land Bank of the Philippines accounts of Ladlad, who was arrested in November 2018 for alleged illegal possession of firearms, the usual charge made against activists.
“This latest government action of freezing his legal compensation is a gross injustice that compounds the dark history of Martial Law and victimizes the victim anew with greater suffering. The lifting of the AMLC’s freeze order on his compensation accounts with the LBP will rectify this injustice and assure humanitaria ....

Exiled Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Jose Maria Sison said that he and his wife were not bothered by the Anti-Terror Law Council s (ATC) designation of the couple as terrorists.
“My wife Julieta and I are not at all bothered by Resolution Number 17 (2021) which designates the two of us as “terrorists,” Sison said in a statement on Thursday, May 13.

Of the 19 people designated as terrorists by the Philippine government based on the contentious anti-terror law, one is actually a petitioner in the ongoing Supreme Court (SC) case where legal standing has been a major issue.
Rey Claro Casambre, among the peace consultants labelled by the council, is a petitioner on record in one of the 37 petitions filed challenging the constitutionality of the feared law.
With Casambre designated and injured by the anti-terror council, the terror law petitions now have a surer footing in court with his established legal standing to file suit, said the Public Interest Law Center, Casambre s lawyer. ....
