Pinellas County announced Thursday that Philippe Park in Safety Harbor reopened at noon because a black bear that had been sighted there was no longer in the area and was several miles away.
In a press release, it said, “Pinellas County Parks and Conservation Resources closed the park earlier this week after the bear was spotted in the park by a park ranger.
“Over the last two days, Pinellas County sheriff’s deputies, park staff and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) worked to secure the park and locate the bear. Today, FWC received reports of two verified sightings of the bear several miles away moving in the direction of a more suitable habitat.” ....

SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. â Philippe Park in Pinellas County is reopening at noon on Thursday after officials say the black bear that prompted the closure on Tuesday was spotted miles away.
FWC believes the bear the same one they ve been following from Hernando County.
Over the weekend, FWC believes the same bear was caught on ring security camera footage in a Palm Harbor neighborhood.

PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. As the search for a black bear continues in Pinellas County, the park where the animal was spotted will remain closed through Friday.
Philippe Park was closed Tuesday after a ranger spotted a black bear that
had previously been seen in Safety Harbor.
Pinellas County deputies, park staff, and members of the Florida
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission plan to reopen the park on Saturday, June 5 but are continuing to secure the area for now. ....
