Es Devlin plans 400-tree forest at London’s Somerset House
Es Devlin’s Forest for Change – The Global Goals Pavilion, created in partnership with Project Everyone for London Design Biennale, will cover Somerset House’s central square with 400 trees in a bid to spark debate on the path to a better world
When Es Devlin first visited Somerset House, something attracted her attention: ‘I discovered that the Enlightenment principles on which the building was conceived specifically forbade the introduction of trees into the courtyard,’ she recalls. So naturally, as soon as she was able to leave her mark on the historical London venue, the first thing she had in mind was to plant a forest in it.

Written by Leah Dolan, CNN
London s Somerset House, a well-known historical arts center in the middle of the capital, will soon be home to a forest of 400 trees.
The installation will be the centerpiece of the upcoming London Design Biennale an international design exhibition that runs across three weeks.
The mastermind behind the display is the event s artistic director Es Devlin, an artist and designer in her own right who built a name for herself fashioning dynamic sets for the live shows of Adele, Kanye West and Lady Gaga.
