Wallpaper is back and better than ever. From the year s most popular Netflix series to the 2021 Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach, we are thrilled about wallpaper s exuberant return to the forefront of the interior design world. But before you go wallpapering every room in your house, there are a few things to consider.
We tapped three of the country s top interior designers: Gil Melott of of Chicago s Studio 6f, Jan Showers of Dallas-based Jan Showers & Associates, and New-York based Young Huh of her eponymous design firm to share their sage advice on all things wallpaper.
Gold Key – Lobby Upper Midscale
The Highlights: The first boutique luxury hotel located in Nebraska’s capital, the Kindler features 45 guestrooms and a showstopping lobby complete with works by namesake Nebraskan artist and the owner’s father-in-law, Ken Kindler, as well as custom furniture by designer Ross Vincent.
Vincent incorporated the structure’s Art Deco architecture with modern design, creating a movement he calls “Modern Deco” with craftsmanship, rich details, bold geometry, and modern silhouettes elevating the hotel’s aesthetic. Upon entering, you can smell a custom scent that’s carried through the lobby air, while a massive LED screen behind the reception displays a video of a calming waterfall, and a walk-in wine cellar and water vapor “fireplace” divides the bar and dining room.

Breakfast Nook Stacey Zarin Goldberg
The nook is stylish yet super kid-friendly thanks to the vinyl Phillip Jefferies wallpaper. The banquette was existing but was recovered, while the table adds further seating.

Comfort was the main ask for the family room. Feldman purchased a new sectional for the space, one that was dog- and child-friendly (the family has three dogs: Otto, Pippa and Owen), and went for a rug that can handle wear. A plaster coffee table mimics the plaster hood in the kitchen, while a new soapstone fireplace surround contributes to the calm, neutral palette.
