A resident of Gokwe South s Chisina village in Ward 25 in Zimbabwe s Midlands Province, Maritina said she has known no joy since she lost two sons and a daughter to AIDS. SADC Tackles Moza Insurgency SADC countries are closely monitoring the improving security situation in Mozambique and mapping out strategies to ensure insurgency activities in northern parts of the country are tackled appropriately. This emerged at an Extraordinary Sadc Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation Summit held in Maputo yesterday, which was attended by President Mnangagwa (immediate-past Troika chair) and presidents Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana (Troika chair), Cyril Ramaphosa South Africa (incoming Troika chair) and host president, Filipe Nyusi. Tanzania was represented by Vice President Samia Suluhu. Presidents Mnangagwa, Masisi and Ramaphosa make up the SADC Troika. The Extraordinary Summit also discussed economic cooperation and strides made in fighting Covid-19, including the need to urgently provide relief to thousands of Mozambicans who have lost livelihoods in the wake of the disturbances in Cabo Delgado Province. ....
Security beefed up at border post Beitbridge Bureau THE Government is beefing up security at Beitbridge border post to curb smuggling and other illegal activities which authorities believe could be costing the country over US$1 billion annually in unpaid customs duty. It is understood that the organised evasion of duties is compromising State development projects and the viability of businesses that abide by all customs requirements. State Security Minister Owen Ncube yesterday said Government had noted with concern the high level of smuggling between Zimbabwe and South Africa. The Minister visited Beitbridge border post yesterday with senior members of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) to assess security and the level of crime along the border. ....
