Two women from Rochdale have run 48 miles in 48 hours, raising over £1,200 for Healthy Young Minds at Birch Hill Hospital.
Louise Whittaker, a supported families worker, and her friend Jemma Dransfield, a dance teacher, completed the 4x4x48 challenge, created by retired Navy Seal and ultrarunner David Goggins – running four miles every four hours in 48 hours (4x4x48) – over the first weekend of May. ....

Political editor Paul Waugh has spoken about the part his hometown of Rochdale has played in his reputation for holding prime ministers to account.
Waugh is the HuffPost UK’s Executive Editor, Politics, and last week made headlines of his own for his questioning of Boris Johnson at the Downing Street press conference.
The journalist, who was born and bred in Rochdale, asked the PM whether he acted with “honesty and integrity” in his relationship with US businesswoman Jennifer Arcuri. Johnson said he had.

A jury has found mental services were fundamentally flawed in their handling of a beloved son and brother who killed himself in a hospital ward.
Ashworth had been admitted to hospital and underwent months of treatment after he jumped from the Arndale Shopping Centre car park and survived, an inquest at Rochdale Coroners Court has heard.
The 34-year-old spent eight years battling his ‘plummeting’ mental health - which came on ‘without any signs’ while in his mid-20s, his family said. ....
