Delaware a lesson for the rest of the country

I had the pleasure of attending the groundbreaking ceremony for the development of the Western Sussex Business Park in Seaford. The park is located alongside of the Ross Mansion and Seaford Industrial Park and is the result of two governments reaching out for what is good for all of Western Sussex.
The project had been worked on for more than three years by the city, but they ran into a major roadblock — funds to complete the infrastructure necessary to complete the project. In stepped the Sussex County Council with a grant of $1.7 million to fund that infrastructure. Thus was born the Western Sussex Business Park. ....

Corporate behemoth Amazon has waded into Delaware s minimum wage battle with a recent campaign supporting a $15 starting wage for all. Senate Bill 15, which would raise Delaware s minimum wage to $15 an hour for all workers, moved through committee April 21 and now awaits action in the House.
“Maintaining the status quo on Delaware’s minimum wage, which is one of the lowest in the mid-Atlantic region, isn’t just unfair to hourly workers, it’s also a missed opportunity to strengthen our economy,” said an Amazon spokesman when asked about why Amazon had taken out full-page advertising in favor of SB 15. ....

DELAWARE – A local legislator is hoping to push the needle forward on getting Delaware’s minimum wage raised to $15 an hour. Representative Bryan Shupe introduced a bill that would require the state to conduct an economic impact analysis on how raising the minimum wage would impact the first state. “If we are going towards $15 an hour or if we don’t want to go towards $15 an hour, are there certain things within this study that we can use to help Delaware families in a better way? If the ultimate decision is not to do $15, is there another number that helps our Delaware families?” said Rep. Shupe. ....

Delaware marijuana legalization bill clears House committee

Delaware marijuana legalization bill clears House committee
By RANDALL CHASEMarch 24, 2021 GMT
DOVER, Del. (AP) A bill legalizing recreational marijuana use by adults in Delaware cleared its first legislative hurdle Wednesday as a Democratic-led committee voted along party lines, with one lone GOP vote, to send the measure to the House floor.
The bill creates a state-controlled and licensed pot industry that supporters say will eliminate the black market while creating jobs and boosting the state’s tax coffers.
While the proposal has significant support among Democratic lawmakers, Democratic Gov. John Carney has expressed concerns about legalization.
“The governor’s position hasn’t changed,” Carney spokesman Jonathan Starkey said in an email Wednesday. “He supported decriminalization and an expansion of Delaware’s medical marijuana program. But he still has concerns about legalizing recreational marijuana.” ....
