The head of the city’s new Ronald McDonald House says she has the experience and drive to tackle the economic and social challenges facing Medicine Hat.
Cassi Hider is the latest Hatter to file paperwork seeking a council seat in the next municipal election this fall.
She joins more than a dozen candidates that are registered in an new, extended campaign period put in place ahead of the Oct. 18 vote.
She tells the News this month she feels the time is right for her to “give back” to the city, and help co-ordinate action by council, business and community groups. ....

In this week s edition of Rewind Robert Smith recalls a very important date in the history of Canadian harness racing. It was 60 years ago that nighttime racing finally came to the Province of Ontario. On the evening of May 17, 1961 with a post time of 8:00 p.m., it all happened at Western Fair Raceway in London, Ontario. A few recollections of the times and some old photographs help to recall this very special moment in our sport s history.

There are several contested municipal elections around Perry County that could be settled in the primary on May 18, while others simply set up a general election contested race for November, according to the candidates listed with the county Elections and Voter Registration office.
Marysville’s council is a prime example of a race that could be settled in the primary. It has three four-year seats up for grabs in the election with no Democratic candidates, but four Republicans vying for a seat. The candidates are: John D. Edkin Sr., Alexandria Snyder, David I.
