(TNS) Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, Lt. Gov. Jon Husted and other dignitaries visited the Cleveland suburb of East Cleveland on Wednesday to announce a public-private partnership that plans to extend affordable, high-speed internet to as many as 2,000 low-income households.
DeWine told several dozen people gathered in front of Mayfair Elementary School about the need for the $650,000 broadband expansion in East Cleveland, one of the poorest and least connected cities in the nation, and elsewhere in Ohio. ....

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted will both be in East Cleveland Wednesday to outline a new broadband expansion project for the area.
The plan has been developed through a partnership of private businesses and the state-run BroadbandOhio, the latter of which DeWine s administration announced more than a year ago as part of an effort to bolster high-speed internet services. The first state-led pilot program designed to bring affordable high-speed internet to underserved urban areas in Ohio was announced in East Cleveland on Wednesday, April 7, by a group of public and private leaders involved in the partnership.
Gov. Mike DeWine was joined by other state, county and local officials at Mayfair Elementary School to unveil a public-private partnership that will provide $15-a-month internet service to more than 1,000 households in East Cleveland. The program then will scale up to include an additional 2,000 residents, offering internet speeds of 50 Mbps for download and 10 Mpbs for upload twice the minimum federal definition of high-speed internet, DeWine said. ....
