Greensboro band's trailer stolen, then found but with $7,000 loss

Greensboro police said the trailer belonging to The Mantras was stolen early in the day March 19.

GREENSBORO, N.C. A Greensboro band is now short on some instruments and equipment after police said someone stole their trailer. The band was looking forward to booking more gigs after the pandemic put shows on hold for a year. However, with some gear gone, getting back to normal could take the band a little longer.
The theft actually happened exactly one year after our last gig, Brian Tyndall of Greensboro said.
Tyndall is one of the members of the Greensboro-based band The Mantras and plays the electric bass. He said there had been a series of break-ins in the Oakland Avenue area before the trailer was stolen. ....

Requests by Northern Regional Hospital to rezone five different sites owned by the facility are a prelude to upcoming projects there, according to statements issued Friday by hospital personnel.
Northern Regional officials are seeking to have the zoning changed for parcels on South and Worth streets, located in the vicinity of the hospital at 830 Rockford St., to the B-5 (Medical Business) classification.
This includes four locations at 1021 Worth St., 1002 S. South St., 1008 S. South St. and 1016 S. South St., which are presently zoned for M-1 (Industrial) use.
The fifth piece of property involved the subject of a separate request is at 820 Worth St., now zoned B-3 (Neighborhood Business). ....

Cruel - Member slams cut to Isle of Wight Council tax discount
ISLE OF WIGHT residents struggling to pay their council tax will have a smaller subsidy in the next year.
Instead of the 70 per cent discount offered by the Isle of Wight Council under the Local Council Tax Reduction Scheme (LCTRS), in 2021/22 the council will only offer 65 per cent.
The council has already signalled next year could see a significant tax increase for all residents.
Wednesday s full meeting of the Isle of Wight Council, agreed the cut to 65 per cent in an effort to save £336,000.
Before the changes to the LCTRS were approved, councillors made passionate pleas not to reduce the support. ....

HOUSING in Apse Heath has been refused by the Isle of Wight Council after the local councillor pleaded with the committee to refuse the greenfield development.
Applicant Connie Bentley wanted to build seven houses behind existing homes on Ventnor Road, forming a new cul-de-sac on land that is currently used as a paddock for horses.
Following strong objections from the community, including the Island s MP, ward councillor Cllr Clare Mosdell called the decision into the Isle of Wight Council s planning committee to make the final decision as council officers recommended the development receive conditional approval. ....
