A group of people met at the corner of Madison Road and Vandercar Way waving pride flags and signs as morning service began at Crossroads Church Oakley behind them.
Ashli Kurzhals, who was at the service, said she was devastated and shocked.

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Crossroads Church announced that it will be donating $2.5 million to local, national and international nonprofits over the next 25 weeks.
Local nonprofit City Gospel Mission, as well as international nonprofits Jeevan Aadhar and Restavek Freedom, were the first recipients of donations, receiving $100,000 each, according to Crossroads.
Crossroads Church, which was started in Cincinnati in 1995, holds 10 locations throughout Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton and Lexington, as well as an online platform. Its weekly attendance was estimated at 35,253 in 2018, according to the Cincinnati Business Courier.
The church was started with the mission of connecting seekers to a community of growing Christ followers who are changing the world, according to information released by the church Sunday.
