The 5 Spot announces the future opening of a new restaurant location in Sandfly. The Gaslight Group, a Savannah-based hospitality company, is opening a new location of its popular restaurant, The 5 Spot, at the Shops at Sandfly retail center this summer. The business expects to add 40 to 50 new jobs to the local economy, according to Co-Owner Brian Huskey. “The overwhelming local support that we’ve seen at The 5 Spot Midtown and at our food truck, The 5 Spot Mobile, have allowed us to take this next step to grow our business,” Huskey said. “My family, and our team, will always be grateful to the Savannah locals for their support.” ....

She was an extraordinary woman, who will never be forgotten. Anna will be remembered for her wisdom, community service, musical talent, humor, and generosity. Anna was born April 12, 1928. She grew up in Montclair, N.J., where she discovered her love for music after going to a musical on Broadway. At a young age, she began taking piano lessons, and would later fulfill her lifelong musical and entertainment passions. Anna met Ray Elson Husk, Jr. “Elson” while working on the Hawkins farm in the summer of 1947, while she was on break from Johnson State College. They married on March 19, 1949, and bought the family farm the same year and started creating their legacy. ....

A couple active in community affairs will add a younger perspective to an organization focused on changing Shelby for the better. Alexsis Vinson and Brian Huskey hope to bridge a generational gap they see in Partnership for Change, an organization established eight years ago to bring community resources, law enforcement and the faith community together to address different issues. “We believe that making the change starts with us,” Vinson said. A younger group can better work to move Shelby forward, said Shelby Police Chief Jeff Ledford. “As the year (2020) went on we had social justice issues. It prompted a lot of conversations of what we need to do in the community,” he said. ....
