Schools urged to start A-bomb training Lackawanna County Judge Otto Robinson, county coordinator for civilian defense, announced that public and parochial school officials in Lackawanna County will be receiving letters calling upon the schools to start atomic bomb survival training with their students. The letters will contain samples of training and procedures for the A-bomb training for the school leaders. In addition to A-bomb survival training, Robinson said that the countyâs civilian defense corps is also looking to boost first aid training in the county. He said the civilian defense would like to offer first-aid training courses for teachers and older students in the countyâs school and communitywide first-aid classes as well. ....
Judge Archbald named to Commerce Court U.S. District Judge R.W. Archbald of Scranton was nominated by President Willam H. Taft to serve on then-newly created Commerce Court. When reached for comment about his appointment, Archbald told a Times reporter, âI will accept the place if I am confirmed.â The Commerce Court judgeship came with a yearly salary of $7,000 and $1,500 for expenses. The term was for four years. The new court was created as part of the Mann-Elkins Act to hear cases that arose from orders from the Interstate Commerce Commission. The ICC, the first federal government regulatory agency, had oversight of the railroads, trucking, telephones and telegraph companies. ....
