Nebraska college student reported missing in Hawaii KATE FELDMAN A senior at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has been reported missing after he never went home after a trip to Hawaii. Samuel Joseph Martinez, 23, flew to Kauaʿi on May 12 to go hiking and camping and was due home on May 25, but never got on his return flight, according to the Kauaʿi Police Department. Investigators confirmed that Martinez had obtained eight permits to camp at different locations around the island, but his father said he hadn’t spoken to the college student since a few hours after landing. “It’s just as likely that he’s helping rescue somebody right now to get them out of harm’s way, as it is as that he’s lost or he’s hurt,” Ted Martinez told the Lincoln Journal Star. “That’s who Samuel is.”
