Amanda (Mandi) Dawn Bjork

Amanda (Mandi) Dawn Bjork, 30, of Virginia, died Thursday, July 1, 2021. She was born Nov. 20, 1990, in Gillette, Wyo., a true gift from God to her parents, Todd and Kimberly Bjork (Larson) who waited 8 years for a child. Amanda lived in Wright, Wyo., until her parents moved back to Minnesota in 1996. She grew up in rural Embarrass where her love for God’s creation thrived. You’d often find her in the woods exploring or swimming in Pike River. Mandi graduated from JFK High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree at Northwestern University in St. Paul. Amanda worked and lived in the cities prior to moving to Virginia. Amanda worked as a PCA and then a teacher prior to becoming owner and operator of American Home“Maid” an organizing and cleaning service. Amanda attended the Evangelical Free Church of Embarrass.

Gravelle takes reigns of all-women executive council at BMIC The Sault News As of March 19, Whitney Gravelle is leading an all-women exeuctive council in the Bay Mills Indian Community.  “(When I first found out that I was to become chairperson, I was) shocked, excited, grateful, humbled, and honored,” said Gravelle. “I thought of my grandparents, especially my grandma who I lost just a few weeks before I ran for president, then I thought of all my ancestors that helped lead me to this moment in my life. I found out the results at 10:57 a.m., and then had to run upstairs for a meeting at 11 a.m. There wasn’t much time to celebrate, but I knew the real work was just beginning.”

Newland steps down from Bay Mills Executive Council The Sault News BAY MILLS Bay Mills Indian Community Tribal Chairperson Bryan Newland has announced his resignation from his position at 1 p.m. on Friday. The announcement was made Sunday morning. Newland was initially elected as chief judge of the Bay Mills Tribal Court. In 2017, he was elected as tribal chairperson. “Having your trust to serve our people is one of the greatest honors of my life,” said Newland. “I’ve given everything I had … My tenure of service has reached its end. On Friday, I submitted a letter of resignation to the tribal council and I will step down as Bay Mills Indian Community Tribal Chairman on Friday.”
