SAN ANTONIO Colorado quarterback Brendon Lewis made his debut one to remember Tuesday night, even if the Alamo Bowl final score turned out to be one the Buffaloes would like to forget.
Lewis came on in relief of starter Sam Noyer and engineered three touchdown drives in a 55-23 loss to Texas, a game that ended the Buffs season with a 4-2 record.
The 6-2, 225-pound true freshman finished the night 6-for-10 for 95 yards passing and he also ran nine times for 73 yards and his first collegiate touchdown. His first collegiate pass was a 26-yard completion to Dimitri Stanley that set up CU s first touchdown of the night and his first run was a 7-yard gain on a scramble up the middle. ....

A depleted Colorado Buffaloes’ defense struggled to limit the big plays as CU fell to the No. 20 Texas Longhorns, 55-23 in the 2020 Valero Alamo Bowl. The final score may have looked ugly for the Buffs, but there was plenty of promise on display Tuesday night in San Antonio.
In Colorado’s first bowl game since 2016, its defense struggled with several key players out with injuries. Leading tackler senior Nate Landman, junior defensive end Terrance Lang, junior defensive back Chris Miller and others were all absent on Tuesday. The Buffs’ inexperienced defense surrendered three plays over 50 yards and allowed 638 total yards. ....

Heading into the program’s first bowl game in four years, the CU Buffs football team is not taking the experience for granted. Head coach Karl Dorrell flew past expectations in 2020 but the first-year Colorado head coach has bigger goals in mind.
“We made a good step of progress this year,” Dorrell said. “I know the expectation was low and all that but in our building, we always felt we had some capable players to be successful and we were able to be successful.” ....
