Western Spirit, Bulls handle pressure in vital Cup wins


For the Ipswich City Bulls, it was a chance to show how to handle pressure.
Both regional sides did that by recovering from halftime deficits to win their opening SEQ Round 2 FFA Cup matches on Sunday night.
Spirit came from 2-0 down against a physical Clairvaux side to win 4-3 at Clairvaux Mackillop College.
The Bulls also worked hard to overpower Slacks Creek 3-2 in their clash at Sutton Park.
Sam Chesterfield scored a double with Dane Grant also finding the net.
Really happy with the result, head coach Norbert Duga said of his side preparing for this year s Capital League 1 season. ....

Springfield United's rapid growth chasing higher level goals

WITH an increase to 65 teams this season, Springfield United officials were asked how big do they want the club to get.
Dedicated club president Scott Harding answered: I said as big as we can .
The club built on strong family foundations has grown from 28 teams and 350 players in 2016 to more than 60 sides and 800 players preparing for 2021 Football Brisbane competitions.
That includes a Capital League 2 men s side, City League teams, three women s combinations and a healthy junior representation.
Even with COVID challenges last year, the Springfield club still fielded more than 50 sides, including 27 junior teams.
Harding was delighted to see the expansion continue at the club s impressive new base at the Springfield Central Sports Complex. ....

WESTERN Pride have received a massive boost for the Football Queensland Premier League season, securing one of the state s leading goalkeepers.
Former Peninsula Power National Premier Leagues stopper Jake Reesby has just signed with the Ipswich-based club.
Pride head coach Brian Hastings was delighted to have the highly regarded keeper on board after he shared in four previous championships at NPL, FQPL and Brisbane Premier League level.
It s an unbelievable signing, Hastings said.
