Image Source: IANS News New York, May 14 : Children with Covid-19 may not display typical symptoms such as fever, cough and shortness of breath, therefore more screening and vigilance are required, researchers warned. The study led by researchers at University of Alabama - Birmingham, US, found that children with Covid-19 may develop poor clinical outcomes such as requiring hospitalisation, critical care services and mechanical ventilation. For the study, the team identified nearly 12,000 pediatric Covid-19 patients. The team found that the most common symptoms included cough and difficulty breathing, gastrointestinal complaints such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and abdominal pain, and non-specific symptoms such as fever, tiredness, muscle pain, and disturbance of taste and smell.

Heart attack recovery aided by injecting heart muscle cells that overexpress cyclin D2

This research, published in the journal Circulation, used a pig model of heart attacks, which more closely resembles the human heart in size and physiology, and thus has higher clinical relevance to human disease, compared to studies in mice.

Children infected with COVID-19 may not show typical symptoms, experts say

Children infected with COVID-19 may not show typical symptoms, experts say     TORONTO, Ontario (CTV Network) A new study has found that the majority of children infected with COVID-19 may not show typical symptoms including fever, cough or shortness of breath. As a result, the study’s authors say more vigilance is needed when screening children for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. The study, conducted by researchers out of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), also found that children with COVID-19 may develop poor clinical outcomes such as hospitalization and mechanical ventilation. “While the rates of poor clinical outcomes are relatively lower in children when compared to adults, 5-6 per cent still required hospitalization. Among those hospitalized, 18 per cent required critical care and 4 per cent needed a ventilator for breathing,” Vibhu Parcha, a clinical research fellow at UAB and the study’s lead author, said in a press release.
