District Welcomes New Superintendent

DUBLIN â Chris Funkâs position at the helm of the Dublin Unified School District (DUSD) officially began July 1.
Heâs now gearing up to tackle the unique challenges of a growing community returning to school after a pandemic.
The DUSD Board of Trustees selected Funk in May 2021 after an extensive search, which began in May 2019, following the March resignation of former Superintendent Leslie Boozer. Dave Marken filled the role on a short-term basis as the district searched for a permanent replacement from April 2019 until his resignation in June 2020. Daniel R. Moirao, Ed.D. then served as interim superintendent before Funk stepped in. ....

In an effort to seek the root causes of the educational struggles seen predominantly on the North Shore, an ad-hoc committee of the Staten Island branch of the NAACP gathered a panel of educators, administrators and community leaders to participate in a recent virtual forum. LAUSD to extend 'no fail' policy to January amid COVID-19

Citing pandemic hardships, Los Angeles school officials on Monday deferred any failing grades from this semester until at least Jan. 29, giving students additional time to avoid receiving an F in their classes.
The move is the latest effort by the nation’s second-largest school district to avoid penalizing students under increasing strain during the surging coronavirus emergency that continues to upend their education and worsen family hardships.
Compared with last year, grades have dramatically deteriorated, especially for Latino and Black students, English learners, students with disabilities, foster youth and those experiencing homelessness, according to a directive sent to secondary school principals Monday and obtained by The Times. ....
