NAACP scholarship funds upcoming Southern civil rights lawyers

The NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund is investing in the next generation of civil rights lawyers and they’re ensuring those newly-trained lawyers will help serve Black communities in the South. 
Ten people were selected for the inaugural cohort for the LDF s Marshall-Motley Scholars Program. All 10 of the scholars are Black and are either from or raised in the South. The program is named for LDF founder Thurgood Marshall, America s first Black Supreme Court justice, and Constance Baker Motley, the first Black woman to serve as federal judge. 
Scholars will receive a full law school scholarship to cover tuition, room and board along with internship and fellowship opportunities with regional civil rights organizations. The program also requires that the scholars spend the first eight years of their careers practicing law and serving Black communities in the South.  ....
