New football fundraiser for disabled servicemen

New football fundraiser for disabled servicemen

We are pleased to announce a new fundraising ‘elite unit’ has been launched to help disabled ex-servicemen and women. Called Combined Veterans Football Club, the CVFC will raise much needed funds, some of it for Services charity Blesma, a charity that helps disabled ex-servicemen and women.
A newcomer to fundraising, but with big ambitions, CVFC is made up of ex-service men and women doing their bit for less fortunate ex-forces colleagues. They are already planning a season of matches, against some well-known national and international sides.
There is very much a gap at the grassroots of ex-servicemen’s and Armed Forces’ fundraising, where individuals have ‘slipped through the net’ and do not get the help they deserve. No blame, it’s just the way it is. ....

West Ham United support Blesma, The Limbless Veterans

Charities

West Ham United is proud to be partnered with a charity making a positive difference to the lives of injured veterans and their families - Blesma, The Limbless Veterans

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans is one of only around ten charities that still exist from the 18,000 that were born out of the First World War. Our mission is to assist limbless and injured veterans to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
Around 40,000 British Service men returned from the Western Front having suffered life-changing injuries in a time when the National Health Service did not exist. To fill the gap, these veterans came together as local networks, sharing their knowledge, supporting each other, and lobbying for better employment opportunities for the war disabled. These groups later became Blesma, The Limbless Veterans. ....

The Great Famine of 1876-1878 was one of the worst in Indian history. It is estimated that somewhere between 5 to 9 million people were killed because of this famine.
However, during those difficult times, there were also institutions and people that had come forward to help the poor and needy. One of these institutions was Bengaluru s Memorial Church which turned 200 in December this year.
The Times of India, the bicentenary of the Memorial Church has been marked by the Department of Posts, Karnataka Circle. It has released a special cover with the church s image on December 12. Review: Agent Running In The Field

Review: Agent Running In The Field
By John Le Carré | Viking
281 pages – $29
Langan’s Book Mark: 4/4 stars
In spy craft ‘agent running in the field’ is the job of an experienced, mid-level type whose skills and allegiances – or lack of the latter – don’t enable him to go higher in the service. This is the cloud that hangs over Nat’s professional life that he is trying to ignore at the beginning of John Le Carré’s new novel.
Nat is a forty-seven-year-old veteran of Britain’s Secret Intelligence Service. He knows that after twenty-five years running agents his time has passed. He can be argumentative and disdain authority. In the trade he is known as ‘glib under pressure, latent aggression good’; not good enough though to go higher. Nat is thinking about taking one more home assignment after working throughout Europe. ....
