FCSO's Brittany Kershaw hired by city of Palm Coast as Director of Public Information

Palm Coast City Manager Matthew Morton has appointed Brittany Kershaw as the Director of Public Information and Engagement for the city of Palm Coast. Kershaw will advance the city’s outreach platforms while ensuring all Palm Coast residents and businesses receive timely and accurate information.
Brittany will begin in her new role May 17. Currently the Public Affairs Manager for the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office, Kershaw brings extensive communications management experience to the position, coupled with a passion for the community of Palm Coast.
We are excited to welcome Brittany Kershaw as the city’s first Director of Public Information and Engagement, Morton said. She brings a great deal of experience in communicating with our residents, and I know she will make a great addition to the city team. ....

Mistaking Taser for gun difficult, local policing officials say

The shooting has sparked protests in Brooklyn Center, a city of about 30,000 northwest of Minneapolis, where former police officer Derek Chauvin is on trial for the murder of George Floyd last May.

Man charged with sexually battering girl in Palm Coast

A Virginia man is being held in the Flagler County Detention Facility on charges that he violently sexually battered a girl in Palm Coast, according to the sheriff s office.
Isaac Julio Becker, now 21, is accused of committing the crimes on multiple occasions between 2017 and 2019 when the girl was between 13 and 15 years old, Brittany Kershaw, a spokeswoman with the sheriff s office, said. ....

Body of Ritchy Volmar, 18, recovered in Intracoastal Waterway after jet ski accident

Law enforcement divers recovered the body of 18-year-old Flagler County resident Ritchy Volmar in the Intracoastal Waterway Feb. 25 after a jet ski accident.
The search began the previous day, after Volmar and a friend were riding on a jet ski together near Bings Landing and were both thrown from the watercraft, according to the FCSO.
Volmar, who was not wearing a life vest, disappeared into the water. The friend, who was wearing a life vest, searched for him, but didn t find him. The friend called 911 at 2:34 p.m. and showed law enforcement officers where the accident occurred.
The friend that called 911 told us that [Volmar] could swim, so there must have been a reason that he was unable to recover from being thrown off, Flagler County Sheriff s Office Public Affairs Manager Brittany Kershaw said. He wasn’t sure if he was hurt. ....

Woman in reported-stolen car shoots, injures herself at gas station as deputies approach

A woman in a car that had been reported stolen shot and injured herself at a RaceTrac gas station at in Palm Coast in the early morning hours of Feb. 15 as Flagler County Sheriff s Office deputies approached to apprehend her.
Deputies found the car at the gas station at 301 Palm Coast Parkway NE, at the intersection of Palm Coast Parkway Northeast and Florida Park Drive, at about 2 a.m. on Feb. 15.
It had been reported stolen in Volusia County. The woman shot herself before deputies reached the car, according to FCSO Public Affairs Manager Brittany Kershaw.
The woman survived, and deputies started lifesaving measures on her. She was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in critical condition. ....
