La Crosse MTU expects to roll out two electric buses in fall

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) The La Crosse Municipal Transit Utility and Xcel Energy will break ground soon for electrical charging stations for buses, according to MTU Director Adam Lorentz.
The plug-ins won’t stand idle, with the arrival of two electric buses next fall, Lorentz said during a virtual information meeting that the La Crosse Area Transit Advocates group convened Tuesday night.

Those are quite the accomplishments, Lorentz said, noting that such amenities are more likely in larger cities such as Milwaukee, Madison and Racine. ....

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKJBT) La Crosse on Wednesday launched a new affordable housing loan fund to provide up to $800,000 in loans city-wide to developers interested in creating new affordable multi-family housing.
The Community Development Committee Tuesday approved polices and procedures for the program, made possible after the La Crosse Common Council approved $1.7 million in tax increment financing for this program, as well as one dedicated to the acquisition and demolition of blighted properties in distressed areas of the city to make way for new market-rate housing. ....

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) Patrons of the North Country Steak Buffet, which has been closed temporarily since Nov. 25, will have to wait a bit longer to put on a feed bag there, as NCSB undergoes some updates, according to the owners.
“We promised NCSB would return bigger, better & stronger in 2021 and we meant it,” according to a statement from restaurant Friday.
When NCSB closed, it issued a statement saying, “We did not make this decision lightly. Given the climate of our community & the increasing challenges our industry faces, this was a necessary choice to protect our staff, customers, community & our business’s future.” ....
