Watermain break closes Kitchener street

KITCHENER
Crews with the City of Kitchener were called in to repair a watermain break Sunday at Bridgeport Road East and Lancaster Street West.
In a tweet, they said some nearby residents reported not having water.
Lancaster Street was closed to traffic between Hamil Avenue and Bridgeport Road while repairs were being done.
The city asked everyone to avoid the area.

Utility pole damaged after cement truck, car collide in Waterloo

KITCHENER
Police in Waterloo are investigating after a car and cement truck collided on Tuesday.
According to a post on social media, the crash happened in the area of Bridgeport Road East and Weber Street North. Emergency crews were on scene by 11:30 a.m.
Police said that a utility pole was damaged because of the crash, prompting officers to close the roads in the area.
The driver of the car was charged with failing to stop at a red light.
Police say there were minor injuries.
Officials were asking drivers to avoid the area while they investigated.

Man with pickaxe confronts someone over anti-vaccine sign: police

KITCHENER
A man has been charged after he allegedly brandished a pickaxe while confronting someone who was displaying an anti-COVID-19 vaccine sign.
According to a news release, it happened in a parking lot around Weber Street North and Bridgeport Road East in Waterloo on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to the scene, found the suspect in the area and placed him under arrest.
The accused, 49, was charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was not publicly identified.
He s scheduled to appear in court in late January.
