For some countries, it’s been two years since national championships have been held. While many World Cup athletes chose to kick back and forgo these events after a long season, here’s a recap of the all the action from across the pond. Brignone, the reigning overall World Cup champion, was more than half a second quicker than the rest of the field and ensured there would be a home winner at the Italian resort. The winning time was 1min 14.61sec, and it is Brignone s first World Cup victory this season. Gut-Behrami was second in 1:15.20 and Corinne Suter third in 1:15.33, with the Swiss duo having made the podium in all three races in Val di Fassa this weekend. ....
Gut-Behrami locks up super-G title in race marred by crashes February 28, 2021 GMT MOENA, Italy (AP) Swiss skier Lara Gut-Behrami locked up the World Cup super-G title in Val di Fassa on Sunday, finishing runner-up in a race marred by two nasty crashes. Kajsa Vickhoff Lie of Norway and Rosina Schneeberger of Austria both broke bones in their lower legs and had to be taken off the hill by helicopter. Lie was thrown off the course after catching an edge and landed awkwardly in the safety nets, and Schneeberger lost her balance just before hooking a gate with her right ski and spinning off the course. ....
