Oshawa Public Libraries is offering a free virtual tax preparation clinic.
Oshawa Public Libraries will be offering its tax preparation clinic virtually this year.
In March and April, eligible individuals with a modest income and simple tax situation can arrange to have their 2020 taxes prepared, free of charge through the library.
The initiative is in partnership with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program and the Canada Revenue Agency.
“During these challenging times, the library recognizes that this valuable service provides equal access to those who need support and may be missing out on important tax credits and benefits,” says Oshawa Public Libraries CEO Frances Newman.

Oshawa Public Libraries CEO Frances Newman delivered bags of books and online resources to those staying at the COVID-19 isolation centre in downtown Oshawa.
COVID-19 isolation centres have popped up across the province as an option for residents who test positive for COVID-19 to isolate safely.
And Oshawa Public Libraries has jumped in to help after the province’s recent announcements to expand isolation centres across the province, including one in downtown Oshawa.
To help people staying at the isolation centre, Oshawa Public Libraries recently delivered bags full of donated books and information about the library’s digital offerings to help them fight boredom during their quarantine.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented many challenges and uncertainty.
The province’s stay-at-home order means more people are staying at home now more than ever.
Isolating during the pandemic can have many side effects, including depression, loneliness and boredom, which Oshawa Public Libraries CEO Frances Newman says can have a tremendous negative impact on physical, mental and emotional health.
She says a simple phone call can help alleviate these effects with kindness.
That’s why Oshawa Public Libraries staff has been calling their approximately 500-plus senior members, aged 75 and older, to check in on how they are and to make sure they know about helpful library and community resources available to them.
