The Metuchen Parade Commission partnered with the Metuchen Arts Council and volunteer judges to present the annual Memorial Day Art Contest in a new format this year.
The patriotic posters were created by students in Grades 1-8 at Campbell Elementary School, Edgar Middle School and St. Francis Cathedral School.
First, second and third place were awarded for each grade.
“The Metuchen Arts Council has been such a great partner to the parade program,” said Patricia Lucas-Schnarre, a member of the borough’s Parade Commission. “We never did a virtual gallery before. With COVID, we had to make everything digital.”

Gertrudis Maria Barceló (1800-52) was one of the best-known people in Santa Fe at the time of the American Occupation on Aug. 18, 1846.
Popularly known as La Tules or Doña Tules Tules being the diminutive of Gertrudis she may have been born in Sonora, Mexico. But, one source reports that she was a native of Taos, and she is known to have resided there before she settled in Santa Fe.
