On Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, Charles J. Roth Jr., known to his friends as Charlie, passed into the loving arms of Jesus at the age of 92. Charlie was born to Charles Joseph and Therese Albany Roth in Northeast Philadelphia. He attended Northeast Catholic High School. Upon graduation he was accepted to Villanova University on a full scholarship and was in the first Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) graduating second in his class with a degree in electrical engineering.
While in college, he met Margaret (Peggy) Duffy and they married upon graduation. He then served in the U.S. Navy as a lieutenant stationed at Port Hueneme, Calif., and later the island of Guam where his SeaBees unit assisted in the reconstruction of the island after WWII during the Korean Conflict. After securing an honorable discharge from the Navy he moved back home to Philadelphia to be with his wife and near family. He joined the DuPont Company and, with Peggy, ra ....

Want to help spread some much needed joy during this pandemic? I just found out about an awesome new program in our area that you can help support. It s called Adopt A Grandparent. Never heard of it? I hadn t either until we interviewed its local ambassador, Drea Potocny of Princeton Events Co., for PST s Community Focus show (Sunday mornings at 6am). Potocny is the CFO of the group (Chief Fun Officer.great title, isn t it?) and she d love your help to make it a success.
The idea is for balloon professionals, like Princeton Events Co., to create Balloon Buddies to be delivered to senior citizens residing in local assisted living, rehab and nursing facilities. These residents haven t been able to visit with their loved ones for almost year, and it s been very, very tough on them, as you can imagine. By sending a Balloon Buddy you will bring them so much happiness. It give me chills just thinking about it. ....

LITCHFIELD – Patricia Goodwin, 77, wife of 51 years to the late Robert E. Goodwin Jr., passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2021, at Brandywine Living in Litchfield.
Born in Torrington on Jan. 23, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Marcel and Rose (Weingart) Mougenot. Pat grew up in Torrington, graduating from Torrington High School with the class of 1961, and went to work at Cramer & Anderson LLP in Litchfield shortly after graduation where she worked as a bookkeeper for over 40 years.
Pat was an active member of Evangelical Baptist Church in Torrington where she worked with the Awana Club, Pioneer Girls, and volunteered her time in many different ways. Between her work and raising an active family of four children, Pat found time to tend her many flower and vegetable gardens on her family’s farm. She canned vegetables and fruit, and created many meals from scratch, adopting the “farm to table” concept long before the phrase “farm to table” became the tre ....

PHILADELPHIA A year ago, the job of activities directors at nursing homes and assisted living facilities was to get people out of their rooms and into their communities.
People like Rachel Kaufman organized movie nights, card games, exercise classes, parties and happy hours. These activities directors, AKA life enrichment professionals or, in Kaufman’s case, escapades producers, tended to be outgoing, upbeat, infinitely patient people who could make the most of tight budgets, said Kirsten Jacobs, director of dementia and wellness education with the senior housing organization LeadingAge. ....
