Transit agencies across the nation, including those in New York and Philadelphia, are warning of serious service cuts and reduction in major projects if more federal coronavirus aid fails to materialize to make up for revenue shortfalls caused by the coronavirus.
New York MTA officials called it a “doomsday plan” of service cuts and employee layoffs. SEPTA officials warned of similar reductions without a second round of federal COVID-19 aid. Port Authority officials said its ambitious 10-year capital plan could be cut without $3 billion in federal aid. ....

NJ Transit is conducting its third COVID-19 survey. Here’s why taking it matters.

Since the coronavirus pandemic, NJ Transit commuters have filled out two surveys about their travel patterns. Now, the agency is turning to its travelers for a third time, asking them to take a survey that NJ Transit can use to plan its service. The results of the last two surveys show why taking it matters, experts said.
The latest survey builds on two previous ones that have been undertaken to let NJ Transit officials plan bus, rail and light rail service and to measure how the agency is doing sanitizing equipment and facilities. ....
