Councillors gave initial approval on Tuesday to three bicycle lane projects that will help create a network of connector routes across the city.
Approved at an operations and administration meeting were bike lanes and parking changes for Albion Street and Oxford Street, and paved shoulder bike lanes for Erie Avenue. Final approval is needed at an upcoming city council meeting.

Marcus Croff-Howe, 11, and his 10-year-old sister, Brooklynn, were clearing snow from the driveway of their Brantwood Park home Tuesday morning when they got some unexpected help.
Their mother, Tiffany Croff, said Const. Hannah Blackburn pulled up in a police cruiser and asked if she could lend a hand. Soon after, Const. Mark Rutledge arrived, “grabbed his shovel out of the back and joined in,” Croff said.

“We looked out the window and it just warmed our hearts.”
She said the officers spent almost 30 minutes helping her children shovel after an overnight storm dumped close to 15 centimetres of snow that resulted in the closing of area schools. ....

New Year's Day polar plunge tradition fundraises for Chosen 300 Ministries

FRANCONIA TWP., Pennsylvania (WPVI) It s been an adventurous New Year s Day tradition for 11 years.
Nearly 30 brave souls take the polar bear plunge to support Chosen 300 Ministries at Branchwood Park in Franconia Township, Pennsylvania.
It motivates people to give because they say, if you re crazy enough to jump into cold water, I m crazy enough to give you $100. I m crazy enough to give you a $1,000, Executive Director Brian Jenkins said.
The Franconia Mennonite Church hosts the fundraiser every year; it s one of the largest fundraisers for Chosen 300.
The nonprofit has been feeding families in need for more than 20 years.
There s just so much determination behind it and passion behind it and heart behind it, as far as getting the word out for those who need help, Outreach Pastor Kyle Rodgers said. ....
