Governor Scott signs first-in-nation restrictions on toxic PFAS chemicals

Vermont Business MagazineOn Tuesday, Vermont Governor Phil Scott signed into law a nation-leading bill that restricts the sale of consumer products that contain toxic chemicals known as PFAS. The bill bans PFAS chemicals from firefighting foam, food packaging, ski wax, and carpets, rugs, and stain-resistant treatments.
S20 was supported by Vermont environmental advocates, firefighters, educators, public health experts, children’s advocates, and businesses.
Senator Ginny Lyons, Chair of the Senate Committee on Health & Welfare noted, “Firefighters, outdoor enthusiasts, children and families understand how important S.20 is for public health and the environment. The law removes toxic disease causing chemicals like PFAS from food wrappers, ski wax, kids’ products, carpets, and firefighting equipment. This step removes hidden forever chemicals from human exposure. It is an important step to keep Vermonters healthy. ....

Phillips can take wing now. On May 12, Denver District Attorney Beth McCann announced that neither Phillips nor fellow Glendale cop Neal McCormick will be charged for killing Pacheaco. The determination was welcomed by the Glendale Police Department, whose spokesperson, Captain Mike Gross, notes: We agree with the district attorney’s decision, and thank them for their thoroughness, professionalism and transparency in their investigation. Any loss of life is a tragedy, and our sympathy is with the family of John Pacheaco.
A far different reaction is offered by attorney Matthew Haltzman, who represents Pacheaco s family. DENVER Denver District Attorney Beth McCann completed the review of a fatal officer-involved shooting that happened near South Colorado Boulevard and East Alameda Avenue last October and said no charges will be filed against the officers involved.
According to a letter outlining her decision, McCann concluded that no criminal charges were warranted against Glendale Police (GPD) officers Neal McCormick and Chandler Phillips. ....
