AJ Retrofit Awards 2021 winners revealed with Pearson Lloyd has been named AJ Retrofit of the Year 2021 The conversion of a warehouse in Hackney, east London, not only found a new use for a building that faced demolition but reused as many materials as possible – both from the site and reclamation yards. Advertisement The AJ’s Rob Wilson and Fran Williams, who chaired the various judging panels, said the winning project was  ‘notable for having transformed some previously unremarkable and ramshackle commercial structures into a rather poetic and beautiful whole’. The scheme, which also won the Workplace under 2,000m² category, was revealed as the overall winner at the AJ Retrofit Awards virtual awards event held on Wednesday 24 February.

Tawstock school celebrates superfast broadband connection

Published: 9:00 AM February 23, 2021    North Devon MP Selaine Saxby, executive headteacher Susan Denham, CEO of Openreach, Clive Selley, and chief engineer, Andy Whale. - Credit: David Hoare A village school which has been battling with its internet connection throughout lockdown has been hooked up to superfast broadband.  Teachers at Holywell C of E Primary at Tawstock in North Devon have been unable to stream live lessons or provide other forms of remote learning for their pupils because of their poor internet connections.  But now Openreach has provided the school with superfast broadband. It was officially connected on Friday, February 19.  The chief executive, directors, managers and engineers who worked on the project have also raised over £6,000 out of their own pockets to enable the school to provide 15 laptops for their pupils.
