Sheldon Firefighters Battle Oak Hill Avenue Garage Fire By mmcwilliams April 21, 2021 6:06 am Shutterstock Sheldon, IA (KICD) Sheldon firefighters battled a garage fire Tuesday. Assistant Fire Chief Brad Hindt says they were called out to 2980 Oak Hill Avenue. Upon arrival firefighters found a fully engulfed garage with the roof collapsing. One crew attacked the garage while a second crew cooled a nearby propane tank. Sheldon Fire requested a tanker from the Ashton Fire Department and used about 3500 gallons of water and 15 gallons of foam. The garage and its contents were considered a total loss. There was also damage to the siding and some broken windows on the house. The cause of the fire is undetermined due to the severe damage to the garage. ....
April 7, 2021 Sheldon, Iowa Former Sheldon 2nd Ward City Councilman Shawn Broesder’s resignation from his Council position became effective Wednesday, April 7th, and the remaining Council members have been looking at the machinations of filling that Council seat. The Council had previously chosen to take the option of appointing someone to fill the remainder of Broesder’s unexpired term, which runs through the end of this year. At their meeting Wednesday afternoon, one of the agenda items was the adoption of the procedures for an appointment to the position and the setting of a public hearing on the topic. However, during the Public Forum at the beginning of the meeting, a 2nd Ward resident informed the Council that she is in the process of circulating a petition to force a special election to fill that seat. Area Fire Crews Keep Busy With Ongoing Dry Conditions By charguth April 5, 2021 9:48 pm clipart.com Fostoria, IA (KICD) Area fire crews have been busy in recent weeks. We spoke to Fostoria Fire Chief Kim Kroger yesterday afternoon, after his department had been dispatched both Sunday morning, and Sunday night. Many, if not all of the recent calls were the result of intentional fires. Kroger urges an extra degree of caution. Wallingford Fire Chief Jarrod Fisher says two buildings containing tractors and other equipment were destroyed two miles East of town about midnight Saturday. Sheldon Assistant Chief Brad Hindt reports a machine shed fire northwest of town Saturday; and tells us the crew was dispatched a mile East of town on 330th Street last night when a planned burn got out of control and spread across the road. ....
