Multiple Oregon-based insurance companies say some bars and nightclubs are seeing rate increases due to the COVID-19 pandemic and riots.
One agent with St. Claire Insurance tells KATU competitors pulled out of Oregon, leaving businesses with fewer options, more exclusions, and stricter requirements.
Brad McCray, the owner of Candy, uses this agency and said he was shocked when his rates doubled. He said this happened even though he did not file any claims.
It was the first time that I thought, you know, geez, I might not be able to make it. We were able to weather the shutdowns. We’ve been able to provide safe spaces and all of that during COVID in the brief periods we’ve been able to be open. But that was something I did not expect, McCray said. ....
